What Can Acupuncture Help With? A Traditional Chinese Medicine Approach

2 min read

If you’ve been considering acupuncture, you may be wondering what it can help with and whether it’s the right treatment for you.

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a system of healthcare that has been used for thousands of years. Rather than focusing only on an individual symptom, a TCM consultation considers the person as a whole and looks at patterns that may be contributing to how you are feeling.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves the gentle insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, these points are selected according to your individual presentation and treatment goals. No two people are exactly the same, which means an acupuncture treatment plan may differ even when two people arrive with similar concerns.

Why do people choose acupuncture?

People seek acupuncture for many different reasons. Some come with a particular concern, while others simply want to support their general health and wellbeing.

Common reasons people may choose to see an acupuncturist include:

• Muscular tension and discomfort• Stress and difficulty relaxing• Headaches and migraines• Sleep concerns• Digestive complaints• Women’s health and menstrual wellbeing• General health and wellbeing• Facial and cosmetic acupuncture

Your consultation provides an opportunity to discuss what you are experiencing, your health history and what you would like to achieve from treatment.

What happens during an acupuncture appointment?

Your first appointment begins with a detailed consultation.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, seemingly unrelated symptoms can sometimes form part of a broader pattern. For this reason, I may ask about areas such as sleep, digestion, energy levels, stress, menstrual health and general wellbeing, as well as your main reason for coming in.

Your treatment is then individually tailored to you.

The acupuncture needles used are extremely fine, and treatment is generally performed in a calm and comfortable environment. Many people find the time on the treatment table relaxing.

Acupuncture isn't a one-size-fits-all treatment

One of the things I value most about Traditional Chinese Medicine is its individual approach.

Treatment isn't simply based on the name of a condition. It takes into consideration your individual signs, symptoms, lifestyle and overall presentation.

Your treatment plan can also change over time as your needs change.

Cosmetic acupuncture

I also offer cosmetic acupuncture for clients looking for a holistic approach to facial rejuvenation.

Cosmetic acupuncture treatments focus on the face while still considering overall wellbeing through the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The aim is to support a refreshed and naturally rejuvenated appearance while maintaining what makes you look like you.

Thinking about trying acupuncture?

You don't need to know whether acupuncture is suitable for your particular concern before getting in touch.

If you're curious about treatment, you're welcome to book an appointment where we can discuss your concerns, health history and treatment goals.

Rest. Relax. Rejuvenate from within.
